Fall 2014 Close Up

Wearable Art: Intothefashion analyzes patterns, colours and materials for the Fall 2014 collection

Organic surfaces in warm colours compose an Arcadian texture with a sophisticated, artsy feeling. This collection, inspired by the dynamic artwork of Futurist painter Fortunato Depero and the mysterious intensity of Surrealist Max Ernst, is as sumptuous and seductive as a moving feather, creating spectacularly vibrant effects in terms of form and structure.

The materials and patterns created by Missoni for Fall 2014 are reminiscent of the family’s artisanal knitwear heritage. They continue to modernize exclusive knit techniques, while evoking the picturesque multi-coloured ornithological world of parrots, peacocks and birds of paradise. The signature ombre crochet-knit in breathable lightweight Rayon evolves through different colours and various shading in flowing diagonal patterns on close-fitting dresses. Woven with the classically bright range of colours, the contrasting panels of the macramé create the illusion of movement on the body and evoke the geometry of Depero’s Rotations of Dancer and Parrots.

Flowing volumes are crafted out of a vertical black knit with a pleated effect with metallic rust and silver threading, which create a luxurious and seductive “boho-luxe” vibe. The dynamic turns and plumed ruffles of the crocheted knits are designed with layers of amazing feather-like scalloped petals in exuberant greens, soft pastel pink and contrasting blacks and whites.

Organic and geometric patterns come together naturally in this collection with accessories like beautiful vintage and iconic Missoni printed bags in beige and black, which recall the classic zigzag theme. Pure aesthetic poetry becomes wearable art in a beautiful relationship between the intellectual exploration and the emotional beauty of nature.
