Amélie Poulain by Missoni

The hand-made doll will be auctioned for UNICEF in Paris on 2nd December

For the eleventh “Frimousses de Créateurs” exhibition for UNICEF, under the theme of “Le Pari(s) Merveilleux”, Missoni has created a doll that represents the fabulous world of Amélie Poulain.

The world’s most prestigious couturiers and contemporary artists have created unique dolls – true collectors masterpieces – that will be auctioned at Four Seasons Hotel George V on 2nd December.

The proceeds will allow UNICEF to fund a vaccination campaign in Darfur: an act of generosity and a commitment to help children, so many of whom die every year of infectious diseases due to the lack of vaccinations.

Missoni’s “Amélie Poulain” is completely handmade: the body is crafted in stuffed cotton canvas, the face embroidered with cotton thread, and the hair has been made from a skein of yarn.
Amélie is wearing a two-tone striped sweater and a skirt in multicolour knit lamé lace; the shoes and shorts are in rayon lace, and a precious brooch with a crocheted butterfly is pinned over the heart.

“We chose Amélie Poulain as the figure who symbolizes Paris, because her fantastical world offers us a new vision of things: the beauty of small passions, the satisfaction of doing good and the courage to love sincerely,” says Angela Missoni.
