Piero Fornasetti on show

On the occasion of Piero Fornasetti's exhibition at the Triennale Museum in Milan, Ambra Medda gives us an intimate point of view on the Italian designer

I was very fortunate to meet Piero Fornasetti as a child. He and my mother were close friends and collaborators, and we used to visit his store in Brera all the time. One day, a piece of bread set up on the table displayed in the window caught my eye, and I decided to go for it. Piero, with his signature wry sense of humor, just said, “Please don’t eat everything in my shop.”

If you look at Atelier Fornasetti’s prolific work over the decades, it’s clear Piero approached life with a joy that was matched by his expert technical skills, his vivid imagination, and an uncanny ability to apply his unique visual vocabulary equally across scales, from the smallest keepsake box to the grandest interiors.  Piero’s son Barnaba is now the gatekeeper to the kingdom.

We continue to enjoy the Fornasetti world through the thousands of motifs Barnaba meticulously finds in the vast archive. The Triennale Museum is about to host a Fornasetti extravaganza, celebrating the 100th birthday of Piero through an exhibition of works from more than 60 years of production.

What a rare opportunity to review the important legacy of such an incredibly talented man, his magical universe of designs filled with color and wit. I can’t wait!
