Animal Portraits

A series of Renaissance-inspired portraits featuring Missoni fabrics. On display in Milan at Azucena

The artist and fashion academic Ivo Bisignano is showing a series of charming portraits in Milan featuring illustrated animal heads and Renaissance-inspired clothing made from Missoni fabrics.

These are affectionately nostalgic works that take inspiration from the tradition of “tactile” Spanish postcards from the beginning of the 20th century. The artist’s playful world mixes cartoon-like characters with the richness of fabrics and the most refined knits. These are remnants, swatches or stock pieces that Bisignano has given a whole new story.

An homage to the “anonymous” portrait and at the same time a tribute to the richness of Italian craftsmanship. The location of the exhibition was not chosen randomly. It is being held at Azucena, a small treasure of Milanese design founded in 1947 by architect Luigi Caccia Dominioni along with some of his colleagues. This boutique/atelier has always put a great focus on quality materials and design while at the same time keeping things on a local, discreet and exclusive scale.

20 Feb – 8 Mar 2014 – Azucena via Manzoni 23 – Milano
