Colourful, cheerful, playful. Marked by lively tonal contrasts, knit and fabric inlays, and interacting patterns and prints, the Missoni Winter Collection for 2013 emphasises the cutest and most whimsical aspects of the world of children. And it makes little girls look like they’ve just stepped out of a charming cartoon or Japanese manga.
They wear sweet little dresses that are flared or cut and gathered at the waist, alternating them with leggings and miniskirts with ruffled hems, under super-warm slim ribbed knit cardigans. Then there are reversible hooded capes, single-breasted coats in boiled wool, and down trench coats.
These bright, colourful models are distinguished by a rich variety of workmanship techniques, details and trims, like the application of polychrome ruffles and white crocheted borders, raschel lace, and petal-stitch and terry-stitch motifs. The knit tops feature scalloping, stripes, polka dots and zigzag designs.
The palette turns to dégradé shades of peacock blue and lime green, egg yellow and coral, ultramarine and sky blue, pearl grey and white. And vintage prints evoke the animal kingdom, combining Missoni’s iconic geometric patterns with the graphic design of striped and spotted bodies, feline gazes, thick manes and long tails.
The huge, sinuous heads of wild animals in embroidered knit patchwork also define the original concept of girlish headgear-hairbands, creating a leitmotif and emphasising the playfulness of this collection, accessorised with matching long scarves trimmed with pompons and berets.
The Missoni Winter 2013 for little girls also includes two different capsule collections: the Missoni Beachwear collection, with a dress, a swimsuit and a knitted kaftan, and a collection dedicated to important occasions, composed of a small number of models in shimmering Lurex.
For baby boys and girls – newborns from 0 to 6 months – Missoni has designed a wool petal-stitch blanket for cribs and prams.
