  • Summer 2018

A celebration of texture, juxtaposition, and layering. An echo of iconic patterns and motifs. Archives reinterpreted in a modern key, transfigured by the spirit of the time, translated and transformed into an eclectic, sophisticated, and festive array of possibilities. Missoni men’s and women’s collections, together for the first time in this unique, sui generis, Missoni Summer 2018 show.

A meeting of shapes both linear and vaporous, fitted and fluid, diverse in lengths and volumes. In the women’s collection these are expressed in soft pastels, from pink to dusty azure, intermixed with lurex. Imprinted with multicolored motifs in stripes, lines, and zigzags. Transparent raschel lace, nets of knits, and elasticized goffre’ fabrics in constant movement. Innovated by shifts in scale, placement, and archival repechages of jacquard motifs. Vivacious interactions of black, white, silver, navy blue, yellow, azure, and coral. Embroidery on lace, crystal applique’, shimmering of lurex and paillettes.

Alluring, sensual transparencies and deep necklines contrast with masculine style pull-overs in opaque mélange or multicolor patterns. Loom-worked or intarsia pieces alternate with translucent slick-effect tees, blousons and tank tops in viscose “macro-fiammata” lurex. Worn with pants or linen shorts and paired with slipper shoes in fabric or hand-painted leather.

Angela’s 20 years as creative director of Missoni are synthesized in this runway event. A party where the most distinctive, sensual and spectacular traits of today’s Missoni style meet and celebrate. A pulsating, strobe light effect of opaque and translucent textures, melanges of laminated patterns imprinted on long, feminine, halter-neck dresses in knit chiffon with v-neck micro-top, fitted waists and full, floating, ankle-length skirts. Close-fitting body suits cut high on the thighs. Oversize cardigans alternate with micro-boleros on strapless jumpsuits with gathered hems at the ankle. Fluid, linear caftans or flared asymmetric maxi skirts paired with tiny bra tops with single or double straps. Geometric bands, stripes, scotch plaid, lace, and netting alongside all-over prints or placed prints of abstract masks. Jacquards revive and reinterpret the patterns of an 80’s Missoni collection, and become one of the distinctive and recurring traits of the Missoni Summer 2018 collections.

For women, high-waisted briefs under long see-through dresses. Lurex leggings. Slingback shoes in python, or beaded slides. Big earrings with button-drop pendants in enamel and metal. Wide-brimmed straw hats that sensuously skim the shoulders add accents of unmistakable glamour.

A meeting of genres and ideas that flow together and unite in an environment conceived for the occasion by American artist Rachel Hayes. A gigantic patchwork-tent layered with fabrics and vinyls, colors and transparencies, that changes with the light, amplifying the attributes of color and the symbolic, evocative, intrinsic power of the materials.
