Winter 2013 Menswear

Missoni's Winter 2013 Menswear collection features a series of collaborations that combine tradition and innovation

The colour palette for the Winter 2013 season is inspired by the great North American landscape. And not only that, to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the fashion house, the focus is on craftsmanship – where tradition and innovation converge.  Clothing made with techniques exclusive to Sumirago, Italy, come in natural colours like slate grey, anthracite and shades inspired by the blue of the Pacific Ocean near Alaska, and the terracotta and sand of the Grand Canyon.

Yarns and stitching pick up the movements of the land while camel hair, twisted mohair, and water-repellent wool reflect the shades of the ever-changing earth. Silk and cashmere are reminiscent of the fluidity of the glaciers in territories that, in our minds, show both contrasts and similarities. In addition to the palette, the collection comes to life through collaborations with some of the greatest craftsmen in men’s fashion like Jean Machine, the British brand focused on the iconic blue fabric. Together, they created a denim jacket with Missoni knit lining as well as five-pocket jeans with the maison’s unmistakable pattern on some of the precious details. Straight-cut jeans embellished by a pocket with a zigzag pattern is just one example of how a single detail can transform daywear into a statement piece.

But there’s more: the famous Neapolitan shirtmaker Finamore has hand-finished his shirts, giving that tailored touch Missoni has always tried to bring to every collection.

Finally, the collaboration with C.B. Made in Italy saw slippers made with the typical Missoni fabric to seal up the theme of this season whose intention is to bridge the company’s heritage with the style of the future.
