A closer look at the Men's Summer 2014 collection

A relaxed, summery vibe goes through this collection full of signature pattern play, easy silhouettes and a comfortable mix of soft tailoring. Lightweight unstructured knits and casual jacket shapes are created in a breezy palette inspired by the colors of sand, sea and sky.

Angela Missoni looked to West Africa for the distinct color palette of its new collection: indigo-dyed blues from Benin where shades of indigo, ink and midnight blue amalgamate to create the new Missoni Blue, sand and earth tones from Mali and rain-forest greens from the Ivory Coast. The material concept of the collection was a complex mix-and-match amalgamation of fabric from the tonal summer checks to the textured linen/silk tweeds complimented by signature wave patterns, space-dyed yarns, stripes and ikat effects, patchwork jersey and sun blushed degradés.

One of the most emblematic pieces with an amazing decorative twist is the dimensionally embellished crew-necked basket-weave-stitch sweater, with a hand embroidered yoke ornamentation. An unusual use of textures resonates across the whole collection where classic men’s wardrobe classics are transformed in rich jacquards, plaited stitches and graceful stripes in fluid linen mélanges, cotton crepes and light summer cashmere are enhanced through new interpretations of patterns like Madras and other deconstructed geometric motifs.

The loom knitted Madras used as a summer Check converted into a lavish tailored jacket that shows the continuous research of new alternatives within an unimpaired nostalgic appearance. This collection Missoni included a new material created in an unique collaboration with outerwear expert Hancock of Scotland. The result of this joint effort can be admired in a waterproofed rubber-coated cotton yarn transformed into a military green coat, that in addition has been enhanced with knitwear inserts and lining showing the classic zigzag pattern.

The effort to urbanize the artisanal for the Missoni men’s shows is obtained also through another collaboration with an important Italian player, C.B. Made In Italy, well known to the fashion industry. Together they give life to a beautiful blue shaded Leather slipper covered with the signature Missoni intarsia. In this summer season Missoni’s artisanal knitwear heritage is discovering new analogies in a intermixture of cozy rural ornamental trimmings and a substantial metropolitan attitude.
